Students of College of the Atlantic learned how to use a walking plow. Students learned both how to handle the plow and how to drive the horses by maintaining an appropriate speed, keeping them in the furrow, and turning them to line up for the next furrow.

Students at our driving clinics learn many skills. Depending on the level of the clinic, students will learn how to harness a horse and understand the proper fit of a harness, how to ground drive a single horse, hitch a single horse, ground drive a team, hitch a team, drive an implement from the ground, and how to drive an implement while riding.

We brought a pair of horses to the high school to participate in Pam Harmon Day. We taught several sessions throughout the day to students. They learned how to brush, harness and drive the horses. It was a very rewarding day for all.

Ella Lewis School
Steuben, Maine
The Ella Lewis school lost their greenhouse to snow load last winter. In order for them to continue using it, we helped them construct a new greenhouse in time to use it in the spring. Students from Sumner High School also came over to help the students at Ella Lewis.

The classes at the Peninsula School came out to plant rows in the demonstration garden last spring. Now they have returned to harvest corn, potatoes, watermelons, gourds, tomatoes and winter squash. Students brought some produce home and some to the school cafeteria. See our blog for more.
